Independent Living Program

Without mentoring and support, nearly half of all youth aging out of the foster care system will be in trouble within one year. ILP helps foster youth who will develop essential life skills for transitioning into responsible adulthood.

Imagine what it’s like for youth aging out of foster care. Exciting? Yes, but, for many, it is overwhelming. They may not know how to find and keep a job, stay in school, find a place to live, manage money, cook, or what to do in an emergency. They may not know where they will spend their birthday or Christmas.

This past year, with the support of Oregon Department of Human Services, ILP transitioned to a brokerage model, which means that each youth is assigned a “personal agent” who helps create a person-centered plan based on the individuals dreams. The plan and the personal agent help youth stay focused and on track as they prepare to become independent adults.
