Minimum requirements

This position is always open as the need for one-to-one mentoring for at-risk youth is great. Not all applicants will be contacted after application submission. In the event you are selected for an interview you will be contacted.

  • Experience working with teens and at-risk population and prior demonstrated ability to coordinate youth activities.
  • Provide an automobile as a condition of employment; valid driver’s license with a driving record that permits coverage under the agency’s corporate auto liability policy; and personal automobile liability insurance.
  • Ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Effective communication skills to include basic computer skills and web based e-mail usage.
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience working with juvenile youth preferred.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English is preferred.
Duties

A Target Youth Worker works with youth on a one-to-one basis as a mentor. This position is referred to as relief, as hours are NOT guaranteed. Youth mentor assignments range from 3 to 12 months, with contact 5 to 20 hours weekly per youth.

  • Works with youth either on an individual or group basis to provide adult supervision.
  • Assists the youth in experiencing appropriate and safe social interactions and activities.
  • Coordinates the youth activities with the appropriate person to include, but not limited to the foster parent, the personal agent or the Family Health Coordinator.
  • Reports youth activities, progress, interactions, and expectations to appropriate program personnel or supervisor.
  • Provides alternative interventions for youth who are expressing or experience difficult ties with planned activities.
  • Provides verbal report to foster parent at the end of each activity.
  • Provides or assists supervisor or team members with support and back up as needed.
  • Attends meetings and workshops as instructed by supervisor.
