Minimum requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bi-lingual - Spanish/English
  2. High School diploma or GED plus one to three year(s) experience.
  3. Effective communication skills, to include basic computer skills and e-mail usage.
  4. Provide an automobile as a condition of employment; valid driver’s license with a driving record that permits coverage under the agency’s corporate auto liability policy; and personal automobile liability insurance.
  5. Experience in an early childhood setting, as well as knowledge of family dynamics, parent education, and home visiting preferred.
  6. Experience working with teens and at-risk population desirable.

Certification/Licensing:

  1. OCCF sponsored Family Support Worker training prior to full caseload being assigned

DutiesThe Healthy Start Family Support Worker reports to a Healthy Start Supervisor or Director and is responsible to assist first-time parents in establishing a positive, safe home environment that promotes healthy growth and development in children. The FSW supports positive parent-child relationships by encouraging positive parent interactions, providing developmentally appropriate child development information and screenings, and research-based parenting information that promotes literacy utilizing a strengths-based approach. The FSW provides referrals and support to access community resources such as medical and social services, teaches problem-solving skills, and empowers families to pursue goals that build safe, healthy, and nurturing families.

Minimum Job Duties:

  1. Complete mandatory Core Home Visiting state sponsored Family Support Worker training and local orientation to Healthy Start within 180 days of hire or prior to direct work with families.
  2. Complete training and be able to demonstrate working knowledge in the following topics: infant care, child health and safety, maternal and family health, infant and child development including language and literacy, role of culture in parenting, and supporting the parent-child relationship within 180 days of hire.
  3. Complete State sponsored training in the Kempe Assessment within 180 days of hire.
  4. Complete the Kempe Assessment on all new families within 21 days of the first home visit.
  5. Conduct regularly scheduled home visits to first time parents, establishing and maintaining a trusting relationship, maintaining a home visit completion rate of at least 75%.
  6. Complete all paperwork, case notes, surveys, and other screenings in a timely manner as State Healthy Start rules prescribe.
  7. Meet with supervisor weekly to evaluate family status, discuss IFSPs, develop case plans and discuss strategies for improving outcomes.
  8. Attend agency staff meetings, in-services, and other required trainings to uphold policies and procedures of Healthy Start and CCS.
  9. Outreach and engage new families into the Healthy Start Program.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
